BRAVO MAN!! Matter of fact, from that idol's look I also guessed it cud be the metal man from X-Dimension,but missed the strong poinst of "oil"(their health-drink! ) Between, last time metal man appeared in a 2003 daily( D244:The Walking Man) and that was a very nice tale imho!!

PS - For those who yet to learn who's this Metal man talking about, please read earliest MTM Sunday dealing with it from 1936 (S005:Chamber into the X Dimension) and severalothers after it!! |

Today it confirmed that "unknown idol" was none other than metal Man from Dimension X,however re-named as Wheel Man!! cudn't understand what da reason behind this re-naming?? may be just a silly goof-up from scripter who forgot the original name of this alien!!
Hopefully we are going to see more thrills in this daily....

The reason for this renaming, maybe, is that metal man actually moves on a wheel. _________________ They could put me in a helicopter & fly me up into the air & line the bodies head to toe on the ground in delightful geometric patterns………….

donno IF anybody have noticed and while it's nothing new that MTM strip-art is quite sloppy in recent time, but still a minimum standard was maintained until from this week, where art can be described in a single word: PATHETIC!!
I doubt IF anybody can identify Mandrake from current art...

Timpa dear, don’t worry about the art, just be thankful Mandrake’s strips are still continuing. I am not sure how many print newspapers worldwide carry the strip nowadays, and if the revenues from syndication fell below a certain level, KFS honchos may start getting some scary ideas. These corporate people are not known to be sentimental. So, just enjoy the stories as long as you are getting them. _________________ They could put me in a helicopter & fly me up into the air & line the bodies head to toe on the ground in delightful geometric patterns………….

As I had mentioned in some other posts Fred is now 80 years old. It appears that he is still writing/drawing/inking the strip. If he uses any assistants then they are copying his style. I'm not aware of any print newspapers that carry Mandrake. It is included in the "Comics Kingdom" online package that KFS sells to online newspapers. If Fred retires or is unable to produce the strip in the future I wonder if it would continue. I'd figure like Tarzan and Flash Gordon they would just go to repeats - if not just be removed completely. I prefer a slicker art style but I'll take what I can get. |

The story lost my interest very quickly. Yes, I think the art is sloppy but even beyond that, the story simply drags . . . . . . When the action creeps along slowly, day after day, the excitement is seriously diminished. I understand this aspect is traditionally the nature of serialized newspaper strips, but with so few papers carrying the strip, why not crank up the pace for us online fans? It's time for Mandrake and other comics of it's kind to "move into another area" as it were. Just MHO. |

How do you mean "crank up the pace for us online fans"? Publish strips more than once a day? _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying every minute of it... |

I THINK IT'S "PACE" IN the SCRIPT/PLOT(rather than publishing frequency!) meant by James!!
Between Adreas, how on earth you though a "Daily" strip can publish in more-than-once/day basis?? Then it won't be called a Daily..rather by Morning/Afternoon/Night strips(considering 3-fold/day format!)
Hey just joking!!

I took the sentence "with so few papers carrying the strip, why not crank up the pace for us online fans" to mean that James suggested turning Mandrake into a webcomic instead of a printed daily strip, and wanted to know how he imagined this.
A web comic, unlike a newspaper strip, can update more frequently and/or have bigger strips. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying every minute of it... |

I don't think MTM can ever turned only Web-comic(or whatever u call it!) because still many newspapers publshing it worldwide....just in India at least 4/5 newspaper currently carrying it,incld. 1 most famous Bengali newspaper where I follow MTM-Bengali version, allthough I get english one from on-line..... AND IT COMING SINCE LAST 25-30 odd years..and jsut recently they turned MTM Daily in colored version(from deacdes of b/w format!) which's quite an indication that they are NOT thinking of cancelling their licence in near future!!

Mandrake the Magician(or Jadugar Mandrake - in Bengali) IS STILL VERY MUCH Popular in India, but that's mostly among '70s-'90s "kids" i.e those adult fans from previous generation only, not much among current kids!!

I'm confused. Are the panels of this strip supposed to be abstract art? Or are they being drawn by a child? _________________ |
