I wonder if...

A) Fred isn't at the top of his game due to his advancing age

or B) Assistants are being used

or maybe some of both

Well, as usual, the story started off well, got interesting near the middle, but has d-r-a-g-g-e-d- o-n for weeks now. Longest running daily in recent memory.

If Mandrake is being run in so few newspapers these days, why doesn't Fredericks pick up the pace for his online readers? Cool

No point in running away from facts, fans.
For some time now, Fred's artwork has been very ordinary, and Mandrake's stories have developed this highly irritating habit of dragging on endlessly. We cannot blame Fred, considering his age, he is doing his best.
Again, the ball is actually in KFS' court. The least they could/should have done some time ago, is to hire a new artist and let Fred continue writing the stories. Since none of this has happened till now, our favourite magician's future looks really bleak once Fred decides to retire, and considering the never-ending dailies with poor artwork we have been getting recently, retirement looks not too far away.

I just wish Fred would PICK UP THE PACE! It's nice to see old characters like The Tourist and the Space Warden, but as far as the action is concerned, we've seen it all before.

Fred's sketchy, so-so artwork is still not without its charm... very reminiscent of golden age comic book art.

With a Mandrake movie in development, I don't think King Features will let the strip drop after Fred retires. A new writer/artist could easily breathe some life into the comic! Check out the work Eduardo Barreto is doing on "Judge Parker" (another KFS classic oldie). "Brenda Starr" is another example of a comic strip that is still going strong with fresh creators.

I have no problem with a long story, but not if it is going round and round in circles and getting nowhere. Go somewhere or go!

You have not kept yourself updated, friend.
The producers have already said that their movie has got no connection with Falk's mandrake the magician.

Surely the movie will be connected to the KFS Mandrake the Magician, even if it is a badly produced "Hollywood" version of the strip. The 1939 Mandrake serial didn't follow the comic strip version very closely, but it was still "Mandrake."

Well, let's hope so. I for one would love to see an increased awareness about mandrake, so even if the movie turns out to be only remotely connected with the magician we all know, but still manages to make more people aware about the real mandrake, I will be happy.

From what I heard the character in the movie was going to be called Mandrake and that is where any basis with Falk's Mandrake will end.

Any chance of adding a poll (also for other recent dailies)?
