Chamber of the Gods Pt.3 The Secret Sect
Script: Tony De Paul
Art: Paul Ryan
This new story appears in Fantomen Nr.4/2006 published on 9th February. It continues the saga which was first introduced in last year's daily strip stories The U-Boat Mystery (D213, 3 Jan 2005 - 14 May 2005) and The Secret Temple on Eden (D214, 16 May 2005 - 17 Sep 2005, Frew #1434). We can "look forward" to another three more parts of this.
Frew will probably publish it sometime over the next couple of months. |

I must admit I am curious to see how Egmont will manage to squeese out even more juice out of this orange. Not exactly a bad story; slightly better than those in the strips, but it will surely not get on anybody's favourite-list either.
It is nice that Paul Ryan still takes time to draw some Egmont stories. |

Nice art by Ryan.
This story had to come, but it wasn't very good. Voted poor. |

I voted average myself. Nothing sensational, but not unreadable either, I think.
About this whole temple saga, I have to ask: How is it possible that the Phantom have not noticed this stuff before? I mean, Eden can't be that large, can it? |

Browsing and searching David Bishops blog

| Quote: | | THE PHANTOM: I've got scripts in seven issues of Fantomen coming out this year - five of my own invention, and two written from Hans Lindahl plots. The picture shown here is the Phantom in the Temple of the Gods, as depicted by Paul Ryan and Tom Smith. Paul is drawing one of my scripts later this year, an episode from the Temple of the Gods sequence. In fact, that's the script I should be writing right now |
Interesting to see that he is writting the script for this saga, so I guess there could be some hope still as I enjoy Davids scripts. _________________ Germ

OK got the issue today and I must say that it is an interesting read and I will even admit that I am enjoying this story. I feel kinder disapointed that the newspaper only readers will only get to read the first two parts due to this being published in comic book format but you get that.
I like the mystery that has been created and i must congratulate Tony DePaul for the script as its probably defintly (imho) the best he has written for a lil while. Also enjoyed seing Ryan back in the comic book format. I wonder just often he would get the time and that to draw for Egmont as well as for the newspaper.
I liked the touch how the Phantom got the Egyptains to write the adventure down in hieroglyphics, nice little touch.
In Jims editorial he mentioned two things that got my attention. One is how Ulf asked DePaul to write follow up stories and the second how he talked about how the Phantom had not discovered the temple in the first place. I remembered how we discussed that in the original thread but in thinking about it, it is quite logical that the Phantom would never have found it before. _________________ Germ

It's a shame that we have to seek Egmont stories to find a proper climax to this story. I think it's a great shame that newspaper readers never saw it; the story as it is never felt like it had an ending, which probably dissapointed many people. |

ALSO I never really enjoyed the story until I read the third part. The first two parts seemed a bit boring and empty to me... _________________ Germ

I'm not necessarily saying that I liked the third part that much either, but I agree that the daily strips were a tad boring. Too much walking around on Eden and its temple for my tastes. Still, the artwork was a joy, and I think the script have improved enormously for Jungle Trek. |

I enjoyed this story, but I find it strange that the first two parts were comic strips and the third in comic book format only.
A future idea for a story from this saga may be that the Phantom encounters one or more of the beasts that have left Eden and roamed around the world - as it seemed that one of the creatures that was depicted as the abominable snowman (Sasquatch). Perhaps an adventure in the Canadian wilderness with the Phantom battling bears, hunters, snow and ice and protecting a mysterious beast that has originated from Eden - who could be saved by the Phantom and returned to Eden to live alongside the other unique array of animals. |

I rather liked this story, interesting and with a slant that we should all think about, genetic manipulation. :
My favorite part was how the Phantom so simply infiltrated the u-boat divers under water.
And hey, us Egmont-fans aren't complaining in the least that the last part got the comic-book format treatment at all! ^^
Trimmer, that's an interesting idea, but to note is that the Phantoms world already has a version of the Sasquatch on the Egmont side. They had evolved naturally alongside man. _________________ The Phantom makes a confusing gesture! |

I was just thinking a variation on similar type creatures that already exist on Eden like HZZ and HRZZ. Or it could even be one of the other creatures that were present in the story, such as the horned beast. |

I cannot remember exactly what the story was behind HZZ's discovery by the Phantom. He must have evolved somewhat in the jungle however because he is much more peaceful than the creatures that the Phantom discovered on Eden. Which of course would have to be the case as well if the Phantom was going to bring back -from elsewhere - one of the creatures that had originated on Eden. |
