 I'm sure you've all heard of the new GN from Moonstone, The Phantom: Law of the Jungle. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with it, here is a very basic idea of the plot straight from the Moonstone site;

Quote:
A unique Phantom tale seen from the eyes of a very personal enemy!

Over at Moonstone's site they have posted some example of the art from Law of the Jungle. Before I show you that, here is an explaination of the techiniques artist Paul Guinan is using for the book (this is taken from the Newsarama 70th Birthday article)

Quote:
For this graphic novel I employed a technique called paintography, which is a blend of photography, painting, and drawing. It’s the same style I used for Heartbreakers Meet Boilerplate, the graphic novel I created with my wife, Anina Bennett, last year. The end result is very naturalistic looking, and I’m portraying the Phantom as he’s drawn in the newspaper strips: muscular but lean, not overbuilt like a steroid case. I think it makes him a little easier for readers to identify with, and it lends the story a more cinematic quality. I did try to beef him up a bit more than Billy Zane in the Phantom movie, which I consider one of the top five superhero films to date.

Now, here is an example of the art. Personaly, I think it is absolutaly amazing! I hope you enjoy.

 Wow, never saw anything like that. It looks very much like a videogame, actually. Beautiful stuff, I am glad they decided to have a painted book (not sure if that's the right thing to call it) even though Doug Klauba couldn't do it.

 WOW that is different.....

Like I said in another thread its good to see the Phantom portrayed in other ways, I reckon this could be something that would bring in new phans.

Congrats to Moonstone for thinking outside the box..

 I really loved a lot about this comic but I am trying to come to grips with what happened at the end. You will either love it or hate it. I loved the art (apart from the eyes), i loved the story, i loved the way the story was told, but I am still concerned about the ending. I think the law of the jungle might have been better to use an early Phantom. I think this story will be more controversial then "Legacy" (which I found quite good).

OK that sounds promising then. Glad that the art is good and lives up to the expectation. You are wanting me to go and hurry up and get the book from my comic store now after hearing about being more controversial then "Legacy".....

 I picked this up at the San Diego Comicon from the publisher/author himself. Even got a discount, poster, and cool bookmark to go with it, all for $10.

The art is truly amazing. Eisner award winning amazing. I really love this widevision format. The story was great as well, the idea of an assassin with a vendetta against the Phantom can't be new, but being told from the bad guys point of view (probably also not new) had a neat erie quality to it, especially seeing the Phantom in such a light.

The ending was the only thing I was confused about. I liked it, but... well if you read it you'll see. Those that have read it, is there a precedence for that kind of thing with the 21st Phantom? It seems unlikely. Just a yes or no would be fine, I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

I strongly recomend this one to people, the art alone is enough of a reason to get an excellent out of me.

 Seriously, guys, whatever you do, if you're going to talk about the ending, mark it with a big SPOILER warning for us who haven't read it yet.

 Has no one else read this story? For such a beautiful graphic novel, it would be a shame for Phantom fans to miss out. It really is amazing, and you can order it either directly from Moonstone or off Amazon if your local store doesn't have it.
